Kundali Matching

Saturn and Marriage

By Kshitij Sharma, November 4, 2014

The problem that astrologers and general populace is that they view Saturn as malefic planet for all cases. It is true that Saturn is a malefic (क्रूर ग्रह), but is not a malefic for all horoscopes and all lagnas. It is a natural malefic and causes scarcity and delay. However, it is not a functional malefic in every janma kundali. Therefore, Saturn’s effect on various rashis and janma kundalis needs to be studied carefully. Please refer to this article on Saturn in order to understand the treatment of Saturn in the Vedic horoscope. Further, transit effect of Saturn through Scorpio from Nov 2014 through Oct 2017 is described in this article, where it brings auspicious results for few signs. Its inauspicious results are also muted down bringing mixed results for some rashis. Please refer to the article for details.

Horoscope Compatibility Using Name

By Kshitij Sharma, July 3, 2014

चालू नाम से कुंडली मिलान, कितना सही?

There is a practice in India to take the name of bride and groom and use that information for matching of the horoscope. What people do is that they take the first letter of the name, try to derive a nakshatra and then match horoscope. This practice is still used in a lot of places because the accurate information on date/place/time of birth is not available to do a proper kundali matching. In Hindi, this is called चालू नाम से कुंडली मिलान. However, what happens in present time is a what is called अपभ्रंश, which is killing a perfectly good system by ignoramuses by bringing in distortions and impurities.

This would have worked in olden times when the names were based strictly on nakshatra pada as explained in the namkarana sanskara post. Therefore, there would be backward lookup and an astrologer could derive back the exact nakshatra and pada based on the first letter of the name and then use the information to find out the exact kundali matching parameters. Even now, the practice makes sense if we do not have any other information and use the name. The person should respond to the name properly – in case of nick names again, there is a complication. While we cannot say anything about manglik dosha or other dosha balancing, but it it is supposed to give us a very good starting point.

This is a wrong practice in current times. What is also very wrong is using a proper nakshatra and pada for one person and using चालू नाम for other. If you believe in horoscope compatibility, use the proper method. Otherwise, don’t use it. I will also ask other astrologers, no matter how good they are, to avoid this practice.

Timing of Marriage: Delays and Remedies

By Kshitij Sharma, June 15, 2014

Prediction of marriage and delays has to be seen from effect on the factors associated with 7th house.  An attempt is made in this article to predict marriage and to provide remedies for delays. It is not an attempt to predict horoscope compatibility as it is covered in other articles.

The main factors that are important in a horoscope are as follows:

  1. 7th house in the horoscope, 7th house lord and its placement in the kundali
  2. Venus for male birth and Jupiter for female birth
  3. 2nd house & its lord because it denotes family

Prediction of Second Marriage

By Kshitij Sharma, May 29, 2014

Second marriage is predicted if there is both beneficial and malefic influence on 7th house, its lord and Venus. There are hundreds of combinations that are used to explain second marriage in Vedic Astrology. All of them are centred around a simple logic that there is separational influence on the factors governing marriage in a kundali. While predicting second marriage, one should keep in mind that 1st marriage is possible: i.e., there definitely is some beneficial influence on the marriage factors in the kundali.

Horoscope Incompatibility & Remedies

By Kshitij Sharma, May 16, 2014

Dosha Samyam due to papa graha – or balancing of malefic content for horoscope compatibility is as important as taking care of Manglik Dosha during horoscope or birth chart matching prior to marriage. It takes tremendous teamwork between husband and wife to make the marriage work. While matching the horoscope, we should look at all 12 houses and try to balance weakness of a bhava in a horoscope with the strength of same bhava in the other horoscope. While Mars is aggressive and the violent approach in a kundali goes against the emotional requirement of marriage, it is important to understand the other factors that can break marriages. We need to look at these planets – Sun, Rahu/Ketu and Saturn in a kundali. To judge how harmful they can be, we should also look at their house ownership. E.g. for Pisces lagna, Sun is lord of 6th house and can denote litigation (divorce) as well.

This was an interesting cartoon in DNA, Bangalore. Funny in some sense, after the current furor by Supreme Court on pre-marital sex and live-in relationships.

By Kshitij Sharma, January 15, 2007

A lot of people still mail me about the exceptions that Manglik Dosha is subject to. For the full list of these exceptions, please go through the post on Manglik Dosha and Chart Matching. Exception number 2 says that there is no dosha if  Mars is in second house in the signs of Gemini and Virgo.
