Astrology and Stamps

When I was a kid, my hobby was collecting stamps. I started at the age of 10 and till the time I went to college, I kept buying all sorts of stamps – Indian, foreign… all shapes and sizes. At one time, I had a full book of over a thousand stamps. I was quite proud of the collection that contained some of the very first stamps of India, those issued on the day of Indian independence, Republic Day etc. Then one day, someone stole the entire collection. Not one stamp, not a page, but the entire collection. I was distraught but could not do much. We could never figure out who stole the stamp book. We have our suspects, but could never prove anything.

I have kept away from this hobby and very recently started looking at stamps one more time. I came across this set issued by Government of India on Vedic Astrology and was very happy. It was issued in 2010, almost 4 years back.

I scanned the collection and have reproduced it here… it is really quite great. The design is in form of  South Indian horoscope representation and each of the astrological signs are exactly where they should be – from Aries to Pisces. Someone really understood the subject and designed the stamps the right way. Each of these is a 5 rupee stamp. The art work is quite detailed and amazing. Needless to say, this one goes straight to my collection. I am checking the copyright on stamps and maybe will make this as this site’s logo
