This post is a compendium of remedies advised for manglik dosha elsewhere in the website. There are tons of questions around this hence the need to consolidate it in one place and add my thoughts and analysis around it.
Recap: Manglik Dosha is caused due to position of Mars (mangal) in certain houses in the horoscope that is said to have an impact on married life and family before and after the marriage. This dosha needs to be negated with matching the horoscope with someone of similar nature in a hope that two negatives come together and make it a positive life. I have explained it in another post on dosha samyam here – Horoscope Incompatibility & Remedies that we need to necessarily look at all the factors in the horoscope chart including overlapping Vimshottari Dasha in order to arrive at the right horoscope compatibility. Still, I get questions about the way forward if there is such a dosha in the chart, so this post is to answer these questions and to quench the curiosity.
Manglik dosha is caused in a jamna kundali when:
Look up Manglik dosha both from Lagna and Moon. The Vedic astrology software in this site calculate this dosha only from Lagna. If the dosha exists both from Moon and Lagna, then it comes become more effective. If it exists only from one of the Ascendant or Moon, then it is considered weak. You would frequently come across this term anshik manglik dosha (आंशिक मांगलिक दोष) in many sites claiming to be experts.
The exceptions are applicable because Mars is lord of Ascendant, 4th, 5th, 7th houses that are related to self, emotions, children and house of marriage in the horoscope. As you can see, there are many exceptions to the simple rule of this dosha. If Mars gets exalted or gets Neechabhanga, then the results are good too. That is exactly what is happening with rule (4) above.
If you believe you are in this situation and still want to go ahead with it, there are few of methods:
I am witness to ashwatha vivah once, however in the context of Manglik Dosha, but more generic dosha samyam in the horoscope. Some time back this procedure was made famous due to alleged manglik dosha in the horoscope of Ashwarya Rai Bachchan. These are said to be effective only if done before the actual wedding. These must be treated like proper wedding ceremonies in the right muhurat etc.. After the wedding the kumbha is to be broken and the pipal or the banana tree needs to be left in a temple after the necessary send off of the bride.. These methods, however, are not very well described in any of the classical texts. Though a reference is found in Muhurta Chintamani, there are many prior rituals associated with it. Please talk to a professional astrologer before venturing on this path.
Some of the Do-It-Yourself remedies are available throughout the internet and books. Listed here are some logical ones that can be derived from classical texts.
Some of the ones that requires quite a bit of caution (and your horoscope _must_be_ checked for it)
Some of lal kitab remedies are as follows. These may seem very superficial, but have a deeper meaning if you were to understand the true meaning behind these totakas:
The meaning is crystal clear – मीठा बांटो, मीठा बोलो … अपनी भाषा पर संयम बहुत जरूरी है. Since Mars affects 2nd house in a kundali from three of these positions, the fiery streak passed on to the speech is one of the major effects seen due to effect to Manglik Dosha. I do not understand the rationale behind other totakas like keeping ivory in the house and hence would not recommend it.
The one remedy that works: Understand fully well and become aware how your speech and thought process affects the other person in your life. Make it habit to constantly avoid confrontation and solve issues. If this is done properly, more than half of manglik dosha effects will go away. This takes patience and practice, but is the only DIY remedy that you need .
