In my opinion, prediction of vocation and guidance in professional life can easily be considered to be among one of the toughest areas in Astrology. I have been doing some research on vocation and choice of profession life of people. In the past, there were very limited options as far as jobs are concerned. In this modern day and age, things have changed are in this era of specialization, jobs are too many to choose from. This poses interesting problems for an astrologer to solve.
The content in this article is my attempt to apply some of the knowledge passed down by gurus. Dashamsha is the divisional chart that relates to profession and success and failure in professional life should be judged from this chart. I have looked at a few charts to try and derive the modern meaning of Dashamsha.
For assessing professional life, we have to look for the following:
- Lord of the Tenth House
- Planets aspecting tenth house
- Planets situated in tenth house
- Tenth House mid point (Bhaav Madhya)
If you recall how Dashamsha is calculated, we need to take the longitude of the lagna and see which tenth of rashi division does it fall under. Accordingly, the dashamsha lagna is calculated.
These ten parts can be thought of corresponding to ten directions. The lords of these directions along with the significance that can be accorded to them in the current yuga are as follows:
- Indra is the king of Gods, i.e. Devraj. He is the head of the department and wields control over other staff in the place of work.
- Needless to say, Agni would rule professions related to fire, i.e. jobs that that need a lot of energy and aggression. Police, security and places where a furnace is at the center of affairs.
- Yama is puctual, follows rules and is “niyam ka pakka”. He controller institutions that make laws. Naturally, it relates to court of law and associated professions - judges, lawyers, etc.
- The mind of a Rakshasa is not constructive and wanders a lot. A Rakshasa has serious problems with authority and with taking advice from others. A Rakshasa is therefore a law breaker. It can also denote department of municipal corporation in cities that have the responsibility of destrying illegal construction, encroachment etc.
- Varun relates to water. Sailor and professions related to ships are professions denoted by Varun. Water is also the basis of all life on earth. Varun can therefore be related to medical profession as well.
- Ever changing and freely flowing, Vaayu, i.e. air relates to profession where dissemination of ideas is important. Examples of such professions are - teaching, consulting, writing books, poems etc. Its effect can also make a person change their profession as well.
- Kuber presides over the treasury of Gods. His work therefore relates to finance, stock market, banks and currency market.
- Ishaan is the son of Brahma. His work relates to taking care of people in need etc. Hence, in the current context, this may be applied to organizations doing social service, e.g. NGOs
- Brahma is the creator. His influence on professional life would be towards the manufactering industry.
- Literally translated as “infinite”, Anant’s influence would be spread all over the world - akin to working in a multinational company.
To work out the Deva/lord that is applicable, the mid point (bhava madhya) of tenth house should be looked at. Based on the sign falling in the tenth house, the following table should be referred to.

I am regular visitor on this site and was interested in your article especially at present as I am unhappy in career.
Basically I left in June 2005 a job that I had been in since Nov 1997 because I felt that my boss was undermining me and would not give me promotion. Apart from that I really loved my job and the law firm I worked for and never really planned to leave there. I was legal researcher with them.
Since leaving that job I have worked at other law firms but I dont like the firm that I have gone too and want to leave.
I was told by management when I left my old job that the door would be open if I wanted to return there. I have tried twice over last 3 years to go back in my old dept but I think my ex boss blocks it each time. I have consulted other vedic astrologers who always tell me that I will work there again, but so far nothing has happened.
On advice of these astrolgers I have again contatcted a lawyer there and asked if there are any suitable openings in any other dept away from ex boss and he said he would try to help me. Will this contact be able to get me an opening again?
My DOB 14/11/1970; time is between 2.27am-2.29am and place is Chandigarh India
I have been told I have an exalted mercury in the 10th house in dashsma chart and that back in 1997 Nov was under Rahu-Mercury period when I originally got the job in old company and am told that this Oct my Jupiter-Mercury period starts so history should repeat itself and will get job in old company again. Is this right?
Also my ex boss was very attracted to me and I to him will relationship happen between us in future? I am single

If more than five planets are in visible half(from 7nth to 12 th houses) of the chart then person should go for own business. and if planets are in invisible half(from lagna to 6th house ) then he should opt service. try this rule and then give me reply .

Thank you very much for taking my call yesterday. It is Anuja from
London. As discussed I am having difficulty in my career at present
and
wanted an analysis. Also I am not married but would like to know when
this will happen too.
Over the last 3 years I have consulted many astrologers about this
issue but noone has predicted correctly and I have done all remedies
suggeseted but still no change. I am frustrated about my situ and
confused by differing predcitions.
The back ground is:
In November 1997 I started a job as a legal librarian for the London
office of a big US law firm and I was very happy in this job and made
lots of progress in career as my boss was very good to me. Than in
Feb
2002 this firm merged with another frm and my boss was promoted and I
still worked under him. From this point onwards until I left the
company in June 2005 he undermined, sidelined and was not fair to me
because he was jjealous of my popularity at the firm and felt
threatened by this.
When I left that job managment at the firm told me the door was laways
open of wanted to work there agin. Since 2005 I have tried twice to
go
back but failed and I would still like to go back and work in another
dept there and I have contatced someone last month about this. That
person said he would try to help me. Since June 2005 I am working at another firm but there is no career progression here and the environment is unfriendly.
All the predictions I have had so far tell me I will defintiley go
back there again but so far this hasnt happened.
Please let me know what is going on in my career as I dont like my
current job and what are chances of moving back to the old company or
should I forget about them?

Jupiter MD went just fine. Half Mahadasha of Saturn was demanding perseverance but went fine….Last phase was bad and unemployed.. (Sat-Sun worst, Sat-Moon- bad, current phase is not good either…
Then are Sat-Rahu, Sat-Jupiter…
Next comes Mercury MD (2015…) which is the lord of 10th house. The 10th house is empty. Career lord is in 12th conjunct with malefic Mars. Ketu also afflicts.
What kind of profession/job/earnings?
Which place/ direction?
When??
Or there is no career/jobs/earnings now?

May be a little amazing but happens sometimes in life…when you achieve everything, are accomplished and suddenly you are made to grope for any direction.
