The Stars and Your Profession
| Name of the book | The Stars and Your Profession, An Astrological Guide to Choosing Your Career |
| Author | Prem Kumar Sharma |
| Publisher | Rupa and Co |
The varna or caste system in India started by being based on vocation chosen by an individual before rigidity and subsequently ignominy crept in. Valmiki, the author of epic Ramayana was a dacoit and criminal before he realized his true potential and destiny and came up with a biography of the Lord Himself.
The book describes characteristics of signs, planets and houses in the horoscope and the effect they have on the attitude and disposition of the person. The chosen profession will be a successful one if it is in line with the temperament and personality and this personality, temperament and attitude can be judged from the horoscope. This is the overall idea that we need to understand.
Apart from personality, temperament etc, some of the factors that influence and affect profession to a large extent are education and the atmosphere of the household where the child grows up. After joining a job, these factors are promotions in appropriate time, ability to deal, work and partner with different people and travels one has to undertake on account of work. These are explained in the book in dedicated chapters.
The author explains the role of tenth house, its lord and various planets influencing the tenth house in determining the profession. Analysis of dashamsha chart is very important as far as vocation and success in professional field is concerned. Role of Navamsha chart is also explained in this context.
The author also lists down various professions that are influenced by planets, signs and nakshatras. E.g. influence of planet Mars can result in defense and police work, Saturn indicates professions related to agriculture, manual and labor intensive work. Saturn also makes one very hard working and efficient in approach. Similarly, Chitra nakshatra indicates mechanical engineering, mathematics etc.
It would have been good though if the author had explained his sources for the information presented in this book or the reasoning behind this derivation of this list if it is his original work. E.g how does Chitra nakshatra makes one work in area of traffic policing is interesting to note since the only general characteristic of this nakshatra that matches that of a traffic policeman is restlessness and irritability.
