When dealing with diseases, the two vedangas - astrology and ayurveda have worked together and jyotishis (astrologers) and vaidyas (doctors following ayurveda) have helped each other cure and overcome diseases for the longest time. In all walks of life, astrology can act as a guide and this is especially true of medicine.
This books presents a lot of information on diseases and associates them with astrological factors - planets, signs, nakshatras and houses. Houses represent some part of human body. Similarly, planets are karakas for various organs and malefic influences on these attributes help explain root cause of a disease. To take an example, first house represents brain and body as a whole, second house represents speech, face etc. Sun represents eyes and bones, Moon represents mind, blood etc and so on.
This books claims in the preface that even though some diseases are missed, a student can work on them by following the material presented in the book. I agree with this claim because the subject is presented in a very clear as well as a thought provoking manner. This book does help in proper diagnosis of a disease based on astrology. The information is covered under various chapters in the book e.g. lagna and diseases, isolated planets and diseases and a chapter that deals with the dasha period and timing of the disease.
Chapter 13 of the books deals with astrological cure of the diseases, however the purpose that it serves is much broader that that. Using the methods and techniques presented in this chapter, we can attempt to solve any astrological problem rather than just those related to diseases. This chapter is a must read and must be read along with other reference books in gemstones and astrology.
