Wordpress, Writer and a New Blog

I have been having a blast with my new ISP since I moved here a month back. I have finally managed to move everything to one place. Images, applet code, servlet code all is in one location and I am sure regular visitors to this site are not complaining as well. Moving the blog completely to this site is just another step in this consolidation. My new tools of writing an article are:

  • Wordpress, which is installed on the ISP and
  • Microsoft Writer that I have recently downloaded to try out.

Leave Astrology aside for a moment… :-) I would love to know about your views about the two tools mentioned above, or if you have another great idea for me to try out. Why or why not Writer is not that good a tool - is there anything else that I should try… let me know.

User location and hits

This map and the little golden dots on it represent the cities where all this site gets hits from. The size of the dot is directly proportional to the number of hits emerging from the corresponding city. Please click on it to get a bigger image.
This picture throws up a very nice surprise. The top three cities in this list are not San Francisco, New York or London, but New Delhi, Bombay and my very own Bangalore. This also means that Indians are much more net savvy than I give them credit for.

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog site. I have moved all my astrology articles to this new location and my other blog would now be purely for my own ramblings.

PlanetaryPositions.com

Dear Blog Readers,
We have moved… the shiny new location of my website is:
For those with the astrological bent of mind, the site name was registered on March 3, 2006 at 12:51 PM in Mumbai (Bombay) and the site was brought up approximately at 11:30 AM on March 05, 2006 in Bangalore. I am saying approximately because, in excitement, I forgot to note the time while I was uploading files on the new server. I did not take a look at any muhurat because I was in a hurry to move away from Geocities once the domain name was registered. Learned astrologers are requested to take a look at this time and place and advice on the chart of the website.
The hosting is done on http://www.indialinks.com website. A blogreader had suggested this ISP in his comment on one of my earlier posts.
I hope all of you will continue to use this site and keep in touch !
Update: The hosting provider is changed to http://www.godaddy.com from August 1, 2006. I was having a lot of support problems with Indialinks and was spending way too much time on the phone over the weekends.

Need Suggestions

Dear Blog Readers,
I need some suggestions from you regarding my website. As of now, the website is hosted on Geocities. I was thinking of moving it to a paid hosting service. The main motivation behind this is because I got some money out of the Google Adsense programme. Initially I was against it, but then I realized that this money is definitely paying some bills.
I am now planning to divert some of this money for a hosting service. I think it would be useful in the long run. Essentially, my requirements are:
  1. Service that can support JSP since I already have a java codebase in the form of an applet.
  2. No ads as they are an irritant.
  3. Front page extensions would be a good thing to have.
  4. Decent transfer limits.
  5. Domain name
  6. Support for few email addresses

I cannot think of anything else right now. I would appreciate of some of you could share your experiences and suggest a service provider. Or, should I just maintain status quo and continue with Geocities?
