Ashtakavarga System of Prediction

Name of the book Ashtakavarga System of Prediction
Author Dr. B. V. Raman
Publisher UBS Publishers Distributers Pvt Ltd

Ashtakavarga is a mathematical tool of Vedic predictive astrology. It is used primarily in judging timing of events. Dr. Raman, in his experience, had found it to be a very useful tool in making predictions. He clearly mentions that the ashtakavarga chart needs to be prepared on basis of the rashi chart and not the bhava chart.

There are various ashtakavarga charts and they are given a good treatment in this short book.

  1. Bhinnashatakavarga or individual ashtakavarga charts,
  2. Bhinnashatakavarga after reduction,
  3. Sarvashatakavarga or total ashtakavarga chart, and
  4. Prasthara or spread out ashtakavarga chart.

In various chapters, the author details ashtakavarga for each of the planets from Sun to Saturn. There is a chapter on planetary transits (gochara), followed by longevity determination. As is the case with all B.V. Raman books, there is a collection of horoscopes at the end. These horoscopes are not explain in detail with respect to ashtakavarga, as it the case with other books, but the student is left to work out these example charts. Detail treatment of these charts with respect to other principles of astrology can be found in other books by Dr. Raman and the student can cross check his/her analysis.
