Analyzing Horoscope through Modern Techniques

I am not a major K.N. Rao follower. I have not read his Journal of Astrology magazine, which I passed over in favour of The Astrological Magazine when I started learning Vedic astrology.

However, you can like Shri Rao or not like him, but you cannot ignore him. He is one astrologer who is not ready to stick his neck out, like this one time he decided to appear on Aaj Tak live television, defending astrology, when the news channel was covering the story of a person who had predicted his own death. The person never died on that appointed day and hour.

I was quite skeptical when I picked up this book for reading. It is written by Mr. M.S. Mehta, who accepts Shri Rao as his guide.

The book is not bad overall. It talks about basics of interpretation of a janma kundali, i.e. a Vedic horoscope, and various combination of planets that governs the results in various dashas, nakshatras, yogas, mundane astrology, etc. It essentially tries to be a compendium. It quotes copiously from Phaladeepika, Brihat Parashara Hora Shashtra, from books of Varahamihira, and other standard texts. The “modern techniques” means that some of the statements and results are from K.R. Rao’s articles and studies and these are sprinkled throughout the texts. Other Journal of Astrology articles are also quoted. The good thing is there are plenty of example charts in support of the theory presented in the book and you can draw your own conclusions.

What should we do with K.N. Rao specific statements? Good point, I do not know… These are interesting thoughts, worth paying attention to, but I would request readers to be a little careful with these statements. It is the same way that we read The Astrological Magazine, but always differentiate between Dr. Raman’s articles and guest articles. Do the same to these statements as well.
