Arvind Kejriwal’s swearing-in Horoscope

By Kshitij Sharma, February 15, 2015

Arvind Kejriwal was sworn in as Chief Minister of Delhi state on 14th February 2015 at 12.15 PM in New Delhi (source: TV grabs, news articles and this link from Times of India). He became the Chief Minister for the second time after the state of Delhi gave his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) an unprecedented mandate of 67 out of 70 seats in Delhi assembly. The principal opposition party BJP was washed away in a tsunami of public opinion. Although BJP got a reasonable vote share compared to their previous performances, the washout meant that they got just 3 seats out of 70. It was a major setback for the government at the center, who was used to winning elections as a matter of clockwork. However, the magic didn’t work in Delhi.

Raghuvar Das Oath Taking Horoscope

By Kshitij Sharma, January 10, 2015

Shri Raghuvar Das or Bhartiya Janata Party took oath of office as the new chief minister of Jharkhand  on 28th December 2014 in ceremony that was held in the state capital of Ranchi. The details of the ceremony to create a kundali/horoscope are as follows. The source of this is television news stories and screen grabs. The time seems to be chosen carefully by astrologers and is very clear by the yogas that are there in the chart.

Date: 28th December 2014

Time: 11:20 AM, Time zone: 5:30 East of GMT

Place: Ranchi, Jharkhand, India (23°19’ North, 85°17’ East)

Panchanga of the day shows Sunday – governed by Sun, denoting royalty, government. tithi was Saptami, Nakshatra was Uttara Bhadra, Yoga was Variyan and Karana was Vanij. Once again, it proves that time was carefully chosen as Karana would change in another hour. Panchanga for the event does not show any dosha.

Panchanga for 28th Dec through 3 Jan 2015

By Kshitij Sharma, December 26, 2014

The panchanga is generated for the week of 28th December through 3rd Jan 2015 taking the reference of Bangalore, India. All days that do not conform to “panchanga shuddhi” principles will need to be avoided. Again, Sun remains in Saggitarius and by the principle of Guru dosha, if you can avoid, avoid any good muhurtas till Makar Sankranti day

If you are looking for specific time/details for your place, then you should use the panchanga applet on this page – panchanga.html. The table below explains how to read the changes. Take the case of Tithi for example:

Tithi Start Time
Prathama Start of the day at 12:00 AM
Dvitiya Starts at 3:45 PM

The Tithi at the start of the day, i.e. at 12:00 midnight is displayed. The second, if any, indicates change in Tithi at the time. In the above example, it means that at 12:00 midnight, the tithi was Prathama and at 3:45 in the afternoon, it changed to Dvitiya. In other words, Tithi from the start of day till 3:45 PM was Prathama and the tithi from 3:45 PM till the end of day would be Dvitiya.

Smriti Irani: Opinions and Everybody’s business

By Kshitij Sharma, November 25, 2014

Planetarypositions.com is a serious astrology site. I do believe in the science and art of astrology. However, I also believe in free speech and respect the opinions that are expressed on internet and on the media.

Over past few days, Mrs. Smriti Irani has been in news for the wrong reasons. She visited an astrologer and asked about her future. This is what TOI has to say on the story:

Along with her husband Zubin Irani, the minister had on Sunday gone to visit Pandit Nathulal Vyas at Karoi village in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. According to TV reports, in her four-hour long meeting with Vyas, Irani reportedly asked several questions on her political and personal future and also thanked the astrologer for his correct prediction.

Goa Chief Minister Oath Taking Time

By Kshitij Sharma, November 8, 2014

The new Chief Minister of Goa took oath of office on Saturday, 8th November 2014 at 4.00 PM in Panaji, Goa. I did not watch the television to note the exact time, but this site mentions that the ceremony was supposed to start at 4.00 and the newsflash came in at 4.05 PM that he is the new CM of Goa. Quoting from the website: “4:05 pm: Laxmikant Parsekar is the new chief minister of Goa. He has just been administered oaths of office and secrecy by Governor Mridula Sinha.”

I have not had time to work on the horoscope yet. I will do that shortly. I am just copy-pasting the http://www.planetarypositions.com/weekly-panchanga/2014/11/01/weekly-panchanga-2nd-nov-2014/.

Oct/Nov is not a good time for new governments coming in since Venus & Saturn are combust throughout – but government formation cannot be in limbo just to wait for a good/auspicious timing. In the given circumstances, the astrologers have done a reasonable job in pegging the muhurta. The details are as follows:

Shri Manohar Lal Khattar was sworn in on:

Parallels in India

By Kshitij Sharma, October 4, 2014

I got this message from a friend of mine about an article in National Public Radio website – In India, Science And Astrology Comfortably Coexist.

It is an interesting article from Western perspective, but it is nothing new in India. Quoting from the article:

It is not uncommon in India to find highly educated people from accomplished professions becoming astrologers.

Badhaka Planets

By Kshitij Sharma, August 27, 2014

In Sanskrit, badha (बाधा) means obstruction. Look at the thesaurus and the other synonyms are – impediment, handicap, hindrance, holdback etc. A Baadhak planet creates a hindrance to the good results shown for a sign and the house in which the sign falls. There is a concept of of baadhaksthana, the house that causes the hindrance and badhaka, the lord of the baadhak-sthana, which is the planet that causes the hindrance.

The concept is explained in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, where badhakasthana is defined as – 11th house in a horoscope for movable signs, 9th house for fixed signs and 7th house for dual natured signs. The signs are considered as occupying the house based on the ascendant. E.g. if Ascendant in a kundali is Aries, then ascendant is called “movable” and so on.

For the 12 rashi, the badhaka-sthanas are as follows:
